19-7-2011 What is broadband ...... again. (I)

1. What is broadband?
Broadband is the process of communicating through the use of different frequencies to send information to one place to another. Broadband is most commonly known as the 'internet' and is faster than dial up.

2. Outline the methods of delivery of broadband (wireless, cable, ADSL and fibre)? Identify the speed of each method.

Wireless Broadband : wireless broadband is when frequencies are being sent via radio waves. Wireless broadband is accessed through various hotspots – where the connection of the wireless is at its strongest.

Cable Broadband : made from material which increases the bandwith limits. The increase of bandwidth means that three is faster internet.
SPEED : 10000/128kb depending which internet server is chosen.

ADSL (Asymmetric Digital Subsriver Line) technology that uses a pre existing unused portion part of a phone line that sends data transmissions. 256 kilobits per second.

Fibre Optic –trapping light and using light to and the total internal refraction to transmit information through thin flexible wires.
