27/7/2011 What is Broadband ... again (II)

3. Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of each method.

Wireless

Advantages :
-Can acces the interntet almost anywhere.
-Easiter to access and less hassle connecting,.

Disadvantages
-Speed is relatively slow and lag.
-Internet security is relatively low. And Data is sensitive.
-Cost is expensive for the amount of data given to a customer.

Cable Advantages
-Speed – cable broadband is generally faster
-Telephone line is not interfered with when phone calls and such are incoming.

Disadvantages
-Modem needs to be purchased when connecting to cable internet.
-Reception issues – if there are too many users online at the same time then it slows/lags the internet. Also, users who are further away from the ISP then there is fairly bad connection.
-There’s usually a limit to the amount of data available to the user.
-Cost to install cable can be expensive if there is no existing cable is used for cable TV for example.

ADSL
ADVANTAGES
-Speed is relatively fast and is decent for households.
-ADSL like cable broadband does not interfere with the phone lines, and there is no need to call in for internet connection like the precious dial up internet.
-The cost is fixed because you pay for the amount of data rather than the duration of being on the internet.

Diadvantages
-The signal is not the best because the speed of the internet isn’t always consistent. Those living further ay rom the service provider will have a weaker signal compared to those who are living closer to the service provider.
-Speed – because of this signal issues speed is effected if you live further away from the internet service provider.

Fibre Optic

Advantages
-Faster high speed internet with more download limit.
-does not require a phone line.
-Signals don’t become weaker as you move away from your internet service provider. Provides a consistent reliable connection even if you live far away from the internet service provider.
-Generally cheaper and more durable.
-Increased data security and are not affected by electromagnetic radiation.
-non-flamable, because no electricity is passed through the optical fibres there is no danger.

Disadvantages
-cables could be cut or damaged, so light rays transmitting the information is not sent fast or efficiently.
-Fibre optic cables are more fragile than electrical wires
